When our grandparents shopped, they didn’t have to consider what their food choices might do to the environment, what animal welfare conditions were like or even what bad effects their food might have on their bodies. Fast-forward to today and we have factory farming of animals in unnatural and cruel conditions, synthetic chemicals, antibiotics and hormones used in food growing and production, plastics and packaging polluting land and sea, plus the ever-present concerns like genetic modification, toxic imports and dubious trade agreements between nations.
